Looking for an easy way to find a great camp for your kids this summer? The 2014 Summer Camp Directory is now available  to research on-line for a day camp or summer program in the Eugene/Springfield area to meet you child’s needs and interests.

The camp information provided in this database is compiled annually by Work-Life Resources, a program of Human Resources at the University of Oregon. To the best of our ability, this directory reflects accurate information of the listings provided. Each program, however, is independently sponsored and any changes are beyond the control of this office. Families should contact individual camps to verify that the information is current and accurate.

The directory is provided as an informational service only; neither the department nor the agencies can warrant or recommend one particular program or another. No screening or evaluation is conducted by the University of Oregon or Work-Life Resources of the listings provided. All responsibility for screening and selecting programs rests with the parents and guardians.

ASUO Child Care Subsidy

The ASUO Childcare Subsidy Program is still accepting applications for 2013-14 school year!

Funded by student incidental fees, this subsidy provides financial assistance for child-care costs to eligible university students that can be used for either UO-affiliated or certified community child care. The goal of the program is to ease the financial pressure of paying child care expenses while also paying college tuition. Subsidies are based on levels of need (similar to the Department of Human Service). Parents awarded subsidy receive a subsidy ranging from 20%-50% of the designated maximum for the fiscal year.

For information and applications, call the ASUO Child Care Subsidy Office (541) 346-0618 or visit

All Sizes Fit

ASF logopurpleweb

This month, a campus wide event called All Sizes Fit will be taking place to engage students, faculty and staff in reflecting on issues regarding their body image. The purpose of this event is to promote the idea of “Health at Every Size (HAES)”. This philosophy encourages people to think about the diversity that comes in shape and size and that people of a range of different body types can be examples of healthy bodies.

To promote messages related to the HAES research and philosophy, the UO Counseling and Testing Center is creating a week of events to encourage reflection on their body image and their health behaviors, working to create an environment that promotes acceptance of the diversity of body shapes and sizes.

Valentine’s Day Relationship Check-In

6332329-heart-scribble-with-lines-texture

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, students at the Couples and Family Therapy (CFT) Program at the University of Oregon College of Education will host a “Relationship Check-In” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at the HEDCO Clinic on the UO campus (17th and Alder streets).

Master’s-level therapists will conduct free, one-time sessions to celebrate and recognize strengths in relationships and, if desired, to identify areas for improvement or deeper work. Individuals, any and all couples, and families from the UO and the community are welcome to attend.

The 2013 Relationship Check-In drew 34 couples and two individuals, who not only fine-tuned their relationships but left the clinic with Valentine’s Day gifts contributed by area businesses. Several chose to continue therapy at the clinic, which offers individual, couple, and family counseling on a sliding scale based on income.

Like the CFT Clinic, the Relationship Check-In is staffed by second-year master’s students in Couples and Family who are therapists in training. CFT Clinical Director Dr. Tiffany Brown calls the event “a service to the community and a learning opportunity for both students and participants.”

“There’s the educational component, which is invaluable,” Brown says. “Our students learn best when they are able to experience different views and perspectives.  It’s a low-commitment, free opportunity for anyone wanting to check in about their relationship or get a glimpse into the therapeutic process.”

Brown says, “You may learn new things about yourself and your relationship with your loved one.  An hour on a Saturday afternoon to check in about your relationship seems like a worthwhile investment.”

Sessions will last approximately 50 minutes. Interested couples are encouraged to call the clinic at 541-346-0923 to make an appointment, though walk-ins on the day of the event are also invited.

Nontrad Portrait Series

You are unique. You have a story. You have experienced things that many haven’t. And we would love to hear about it!

Nontraditional Student Programs at UO is inviting you, a very special student, to share your nontraditional student story with us in our upcoming portrait series campaign.

Your photo and story will be featured on posters around campus and social media platforms during 2014. In addition to having your voice heard by fellow classmates, you will get to keep a professional portrait that will be taken of you, in a location of your choice. The choice of your portrait’s location should best describe the person that you are outside of the classroom. This photo will be featured in your story.

We understand the power of our stories can inspire, motivate, and encourage other students who are in similar situations. Your story can make a difference and we hope that you’re willing to share!

Please email gjewett@uoregon.edu if you are willing to have your portrait taken, tell your story, and to be featured online and on posters around campus.
